Top 10 Beach Vacations in India

Palolem Beach:

Palolem beach in South Goa is a far cry in contrast to North Goa beaches. When it comes to the golden sands, swaying palm-fronds, gentle surf and heavenly sunsets, Palolem raises the yardstick a notch high! With sea birds wheeling over serene sandy stretches, occasional sun loungers and comforting shacks, Palolem is the right place for an idyllic hide-away.

Varkala Beach:

If Goa was the Mecca for Hippies and back-packers in the '70s, Varkala beach in the Southern state of Kerala holds that distinction now. A laid-back affair with the backdrop of dramatic cliffs and a generous amount of reggae, this beach is just right for some rejuvenating beach-therapy!

Om Beach:

Together with its surrounding beaches, Om Beach in the town of Gokarna in Karnataka, remains a vestige of the fabled hippie trail. One of the most secluded and pristine beaches, Om is the ultimate destination for spotting Dolphins and for a delightful Bohemian holiday.

Kovalam Beach:

One of the prime beaches in India’s beach repertoire, Kovalam in Kerala has always enjoyed the status of being a major tourist spot. Blessed with calm blue waters, sensational rocky outcroppings, palm groves and some spectacular sunsets, this beach draws flocks of tourists and locals. Take a hint and make a beeline for the resorts along the coastal front, which offer access to a private beach to enjoy this picturesque paradise.

Havelock Beach

The legendary colonial past, unexplored shores, incredible corals and marine life make this beach on the Indian Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar islands a favorite soul-soothing retreat.

Mahabalipuram Beach:

A world heritage site, Mahabalipuram is renowned for the ancient Shore Temple and rock carvings which sit majestically, close to the beach. Though the beach itself is a little grimy, it offers a pleasant mix of sun, sand and sea food. Set out for this beach laced in history if peddlers and crowds do not bother you.

Bangaram Beach:

Nestled, in one of the 36 coral islands of Lakshadweep, off the coast of Kerala, Bangaram beach is famous for its pristine lagoons and unblemished coral-reefs. It is a dreamland for diving, snorkeling and parasailing.

Kanyakumari Beach:

Located at the Southern tip of India, Kanyakumari is located an interesting confluence of 3 water bodies - the Arabian Sea, the Bay of Bengal and the Indian Ocean. Thronged by tourists and natives, Kanyakumari is not an ideal beach haven for swimming and tanning. Nevertheless, being a pilgrimage site and the prospect of a glorious sunrise and sunset attracts travelers here.

Paradise Beach:

As opposed to the rocky shores of the rest of Puducherry – a quaint erstwhile French settlement town in South India - Paradise beach has a lovely sandy beach with the options of swimming and water-sports.
